On February 14, 2019, 40 brave soldiers of the country were martyred in a cowardly attack by Pakistan-backed terrorists. The convoy of about 2,500 CRPF personnel was en route from Jammu to Srinagar when a suicide bomber, driving an SUV loaded with 350 kg of explosives, targeted a bus in the convoy in Pulwama. The powerful explosion resulted in significant casualties. Jaish-e-Mohammed, a terrorist organization based in Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the attack. In response, Bharat conducted an airstrike on the biggest Jaish terrorist base in Balakot, Pakistan, on the night of February 26-27, 2019, killing approximately 350 terrorists. Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who displayed bravery against Pakistan, was captured but later released after intense diplomatic pressure from Bharat.
