New Delhi, 18 February (HS): Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) registered a spectacular victory by defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) by eight wickets in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) match played in Vadodara. The excellent performance of Renuka Singh, Georgia Wareham and captain Smriti Mandhana played an important role in this victory.
Former Indian captain Mithali Raj praised RCB’s performance and said that the team had taken control of the game from the first over itself. Mithali said on Jio Hotstar, “When Renuka Singh dismissed Shafali Verma in the very first over, RCB took control of the game from then on. Smriti Mandhana did excellent captaincy and the effect of her bowling changes was clearly visible. Her innings gave the team a strong start.”
RCB’s strong bowling, Delhi all out for 141
RCB won the toss and decided to bowl first. Delhi Capitals suffered the first blow on the very first ball of the innings, when Shafali Verma (0) was caught by Smriti Mandhana off Renuka Singh. After this, Jemima Rodrigues (34) and captain Meg Lanning (17) tried to handle the innings by making a partnership of 60 runs, but Georgia Wareham stumped Jemima to give Delhi the second blow.
Delhi’s innings folded for 141 runs in 19.3 overs. Renuka Singh and Georgia Wareham took two wickets each, while Kim Garth and other bowlers also performed brilliantly.
Smriti Mandhana’s explosive innings, RCB’s easy win
Chasing the target of 141 runs, RCB’s opening pair made a strong start. Captain Smriti Mandhana played a blistering innings of 81 runs in 47 balls, which included 10 fours and 3 sixes. Danny Wyatt (42) also made a great contribution. Both of them shared a 107-run partnership for the first wicket. With this win, RCB reached the top of the points table with two wins in two matches, while Delhi slipped to third place.
