On Friday, India and the European Union (EU) discussed the progress of negotiations on the proposed free trade agreement (FTA), which aims to promote two-way commerce and investment. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and European Trade and Economic Security Commissioner Maros Sefcovic held a meeting in New Delhi. During this, the agreement was discussed in detail.
Piyush Goyal gave this information in a statement issued on ‘X’. The Commerce Minister wrote, “Today over breakfast, there was a clear and practical discussion with EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic on the progress of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement and the Trade and Technology Council. The Commerce Minister further wrote that the time ahead is exciting, as we work towards taking our trade and investment relations to the next level as trusted partners.”
EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic was accompanied by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. He has come to India on an official visit along with senior political leaders. This meeting between India and the European Union is important because senior officials of both sides are going to hold the tenth round of talks for FTA in Brussels on March 10-14.
