On Saturday, civilian buses escorted by the security forces restarted trips across districts in Manipur after the protests led by Kuki tribes, who are demanding no free movement until their demand for a separate state from Manipur has been met.
Visuals on social media showed mine-resistant vehicles running in ploughing through blockades in Kangpokpi district, 45 km from the state capital Imphal.
After the center’s announcement that there should be no road blockades anywhere from today in the state, which comes under the President’s rule, security forces lathi-charged the protest, resulting in many women from the Kuki tribes who tried to block the highway getting injured.
