‘Plastic water bottles should not be used at the wedding receptions in the state, citing environmental concerns’, announced the Kerala High Court.
The court stated that small plastic bottles were causing harm. It further added that plastic materials should not be used at official events. The court said strict measures were needed to eliminate non-reusable plastic.
The court asked, “How can the ban on plastic water bottles be implemented practically?” The court was hearing a ‘suo moto’ case on matters related to the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016.
‘A proposal to ban plastic in hilly areas was under consideration’, government told the court. For using plastic at events with more than 100 people, a plastic was required. Local self-government bodies have the authority to issue these licences.
“There is a ban on the use of half-litre water bottles at wedding receptions,” said the Special Secretary of the Local Self-Government Department said, ‘There is a ban on the use of half-litre water bottles at wedding receptions’.
