A special court in Mohali has convicted pastor Bajinder Singh in the 2018 sexual assault and rape case from Zirakpur. The court will announce his sentence on April 1. Bajinder Singh appeared in court on Friday with six other accused. However, five of the co-accused were acquitted due to insufficient evidence.
The case began in 2018 when a woman from Zirakpur accused Bajinder Singh of sexual assault. He was arrested in July 2018 at the Delhi airport while trying to board a flight to London.
The police filed charges against Bajinder Singh and six others after the woman’s complaint. Bajinder Singh, who claimed to heal people through miracles, was charged along with Akbar Bhatti, Rajesh Chaudhary, Sucha Singh, Jatinder Kumar, Sitar Ali, and Sandeep alias Pehlwan.
The accused were charged with serious offenses like rape, cheating, causing hurt, and more. According to the charges, Bajinder Singh, the pastor at The Church of Glory and Wisdom in Tajpur village, allegedly harassed a young girl in Jalandhar. He is said to have sent her inappropriate messages and misbehaved with her in his church cabin.
Following the complaint, the Kapurthala police formed a special team to investigate the case.
