Protests in Nepal turned violent on Friday as supporters of the monarchy clashed with security forces in Kathmandu.
The protesters were demanding the return of the monarchy and the restoration of Nepal as a Hindu kingdom. The clashes took place during separate protests organized by pro-monarchy groups and republicans in different parts of the city, causing chaos and confrontations with the police.
To control the situation, riot police were deployed in various areas, especially near Tinkune and Bhrikutimandap, where the protests were taking place. The pro-monarchy protesters, led by the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, gathered in large numbers, chanting slogans like “Bring back the King” and “Down with the corrupt government.”
The protests gained momentum after former King Gyanendra Shah encouraged his supporters to back the idea of restoring Nepal’s Hindu Kingdom in a video message on Democracy Day (February 19).
