Uttar Pradesh has been governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the past eight years, with Yogi Adityanath as the Chief Minister. From the very beginning, Adityanath made it clear that maintaining law and order would be his top priority and the results are clear.
The state has seen an 85% drop in serious crimes, thanks to a strict approach to policing and crime control. Actions like encounters, crackdowns on criminal gangs, and a stronger police force have helped improve the situation.
When the BJP came to power in 2017, they promised to end the lawlessness that had been a problem under the Samajwadi Party’s rule. Yogi Adityanath quickly took action by seizing the assets of known criminals, tightening the law, and making sure that criminals faced serious consequences.
These tough actions have led to a noticeable decrease in crimes. According to a government report:
Robberies have dropped by 85% since 2016.
Theft cases are down by 77%.
Murders have decreased by 41%.
Dowry deaths have also gone down.
Western Uttar Pradesh, which used to be known for highway robberies, is now much safer. The police say this change is due to more surveillance, CCTV cameras, and a stronger, better-equipped police force.
Under Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, the police have become more powerful. Over the past eight years, there have been more than 8,000 encounters, leading to the killing of 222 criminals and injuries to over 8,000 more.
This tough approach has made criminals afraid, and many have surrendered to the police. Over 80,000 criminals have been jailed, and more than 900 people have been charged under the National Security Act (NSA) for serious crimes or attempts to create communal violence.
