In West Bengal’s Jadavpur University, Hindu students boldly celebrated Ram Navami even after the university administration denied them permission. The celebration was held on Sunday, April 6th, by students associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
The puja took place at the Technology Building inside the campus. The students decorated the area, placed an idol of Lord Ram, and raised slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Many students participated in the celebration with joy and devotion.

Recently, the university had been in the news for anti-national slogans painted on its walls. Graffiti such as ‘Azad Kashmir’ and ‘Free Palestine’ was seen on the campus. But on Sunday, those slogans were covered with posters of Lord Ram, Sri Aurobindo, and the Indian national flag.
The students pointed out that Jadavpur University was once led by Sri Aurobindo, a great freedom fighter and saint. They said that the university ignored the anti-national graffiti, but tried to stop a peaceful religious celebration.
The university claimed it could not allow the Ram Navami celebration because the Vice-Chancellor was absent. However, just a few days earlier, the university allowed an Iftar celebration during the month of Ramadan. This unfair decision made many students feel discriminated against.
Debanjan Pal, ABVP’s Kolkata District Secretary, strongly criticized the decision. He said that only a few ultra-Left students were against the puja, while most students supported it.
Former Vice-Chancellor Buddhadeb Sahu also criticised the university. He said that no VC can be a reason to deny permission, especially when other festivals have been celebrated on campus before.
The students stood firm and proved that their devotion and belief in Lord Ram cannot be stopped by biased decisions. Their peaceful celebration sent a strong message of faith and patriotism.
