A 20-year-old man, identified as Asif Mansoori, was apprehended by the Thane Police on Monday in connection with the alleged kidnapping, rape, and murder of a young girl. Authorities state that the victim’s throat was slit, resulting in her death.
The body of the minor was found in a vertical shaft within a residential building in the Samrat Nagar area of Mumbra, Thane. Reports indicate the body was allegedly disposed of through a bathroom window on the sixth floor of the building. A loud noise heard by a woman led to the discovery and subsequent police notification.
Mansoori has been charged under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections 103 (murder) and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence or providing false information to protect the offender), as well as relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police investigations suggest the victim, who resided in a nearby building, was enticed away by the accused with the offer of toys. He then allegedly took her to his residence where he committed the sexual assault and subsequently murdered her. Following the crime, he is accused of disposing of her body by pushing it out the bathroom window.
The incident was reported to the police late Monday night at 11:48 PM, and a case was officially registered the following day.
The post-mortem examination of the 10-year-old girl confirmed both rape and that the cause of death was the slitting of her throat with a sharp object.
Based on the findings of the autopsy, additional charges under the BNS have been added against Mansoori, including sections 96 (enticing a child), 137 (2) (kidnapping), 64 (rape), 64 (I) (rape of a woman incapable of consent), 65 (2) (rape of a child under 12 years of age), and the previously mentioned section 238 concerning the disposal of evidence.
