- India tightens measures against Pakistan after Pahalgam attack kills 26, including one Nepali tourist.
On April 25, officials confirmed the demolition of the house belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Adil Thokar, also known as Adil Guree. He hails from Guree village in Bijbehara block of Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir. Adil Guree is believed to be one of the key conspirators in the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people including one Nepalese citizen the majority being tourists.
Adil has now been declared one of the most-wanted terrorists. The Anantnag Police have announced a reward of ₹20 lakh for anyone providing specific information about his whereabouts. Two Pakistani nationals have also been declared most-wanted in connection with the same case.
Investigations have revealed that Adil legally travelled to Pakistan in 2018, where he allegedly underwent terror training. He returned to Jammu and Kashmir last year and has since been actively involved in terrorist activities.
Meanwhile, in a related development, two security personnel were injured in an encounter that broke out in Bandipora district on Friday morning. Acting on specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a joint search operation in the Kolnar Ajas area of the district. According to the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army, contact was established during the operation, and a firefight ensued. The situation is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
This flurry of counter-terror operations comes just days after the heinous attack on April 22 at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, where terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists. The ambush resulted in the deaths of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, with several others sustaining injuries.
In the wake of the Pahalgam attack, the Indian government has announced a series of diplomatic and security measures aimed at Pakistan. These include the closure of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari, suspension of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals giving them 40 hours to exit India and a reduction in the number of officers at High Commissions on both sides.
The brutal attack has triggered a wave of outrage across the nation. Widespread protests have erupted, with citizens demanding stern and immediate action against Pakistan for harboring and aiding terrorists involved in cross-border attacks.
