In a horrifying and heart-wrenching incident, 26 Hindu pilgrims were killed in a brutal terrorist attack on April 22, 2025, in the Pir Panjal region of Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district. This planned and targeted massacre has shaken the entire nation. According to reports, the terrorists ambushed the group and separated them based on their religion. Eyewitnesses said the victims were forced to recite Islamic prayers, and those who failed or resisted were shot dead mercilessly.
Among the dead were men, women, and even children. This act of inhuman violence has left the country outraged and heartbroken. Seventeen other people were injured in the attack, some of them critically. Families have been destroyed, and a sense of fear has returned to the region that was already battling years of terror threats.
Terror Group TRF Claims Responsibility
A day after the attack, the terror group The Resistance Front (TRF), which is backed by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, openly claimed responsibility for the massacre. In a statement, the group said the attack was aimed at stopping the settlement of non-locals in Jammu and Kashmir. They threatened to carry out more such attacks in the future. This dangerous and hateful ideology clearly shows how these terror groups continue to use violence to divide people and spread fear.
Their statement shows not just a lack of humanity, but also the open support and encouragement for terrorism from Pakistan-backed organizations. By targeting innocent Hindus, these terrorists are trying to spread communal hatred and disturb the peace in the region.
Immediately after the attack, Indian security forces launched a massive search operation in the Pir Panjal region. Special units like the Army, Special Reaction Teams (SRT), and other security agencies were deployed to locate and eliminate the terrorists responsible. The entire area was cordoned off, and a high alert was issued across Jammu and Kashmir.
The forces are scanning the dense forests and mountainous terrain where the terrorists are believed to be hiding. Surveillance has been increased, and checkpoints have been strengthened to prevent further attacks.
NIA Identifies Suspected Terrorists
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has released the images of three terrorists suspected of being involved in the massacre. The names of the terrorists are Asif Foji, Suleman Shah, and Abu Talha. These men have been identified through intelligence reports and are now being hunted down by Indian security agencies.
The released photo shows the three suspects armed and together, further confirming the planned nature of the attack. These terrorists must be brought to justice so that such evil acts are never repeated.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced financial help for the families affected by this terrorist attack. The families of those who lost their lives will receive ₹10 lakh each. People with serious injuries will get ₹2 lakh, and those with minor injuries will be given ₹1 lakh.
Chief Minister Umar Abdullah strongly condemned the attack and called it “inhuman and cowardly.” He also promised that the government will do everything possible to support the grieving families.
Following the attack, the Indian government took strict action against Pakistan. All Pakistani nationals staying in India on certain visas were given 48 hours to leave the country. A total of 537 Pakistanis were identified and asked to exit India immediately.
Further, India expelled a senior Pakistani diplomatic advisor to send a clear message that sponsoring terrorism will not be tolerated. The government has also started the process to suspend discussions under the Indus Waters Treaty, which is a vital agreement between the two countries. In addition, the Attari-Wagah border has been temporarily closed for civilian movement. These strong steps show India’s determination to fight terrorism and protect its citizens.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah rushed to Srinagar after the attack and held a high-level meeting with top officials from intelligence and security agencies. He assured that the government stands with the victims and that every possible step will be taken to ensure justice.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on a foreign visit, also cut short his trip and returned to India. He said the attack will not go unpunished, and those behind this terror act will be hunted down.
This attack has once again exposed the cruel face of terrorism. Killing innocent people just because of their religion is not just a crime, it is an attack on the values of humanity. Such acts are meant to divide India and disturb communal harmony, but the nation has always stood united in the face of such hatred.
Terrorism has no religion. No cause can justify the murder of innocent children and women. The people of India must come together and support the security forces who are risking their lives to protect the country. The entire country demands justice, and every Indian soul is grieving with the victims’ families.
