KEY POINTS
- Pahalgam attack linked to Hamas and Pakistan-backed groups like LeT and JeM
- Attack planners include Abu Musa, Saifullah Kasuri, and Rizwan Hanif
- A major rally in PoK showcased unity between Hamas and Kashmir-based terror outfits
Indian intelligence officials believe that the Pahalgam terror attack is linked to a growing partnership between Hamas, a Palestinian terrorist group, and Pakistani-supported groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). As per the top intelligence sources the main people behind the attack were involved in a rally on 5th February in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The rally, held at Shaheed Sabir Stadium, was called the “Kashmir Solidarity and Hamas Operation Al Aqsa Flood Conference.” During the event, a JeM leader made a threatening speech, saying, “The fighters of Palestine and Kashmir now march as one. Blood will be spilled in Delhi, and Kashmir shall be torn from India.” This rally was part of Pakistan’s annual Kashmir Solidarity Day event and had about 100 foreign terrorists attending.
At the rally in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), several high-ranking terrorists were present. This included Talha Saif, the brother of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) leader Mohammad Masood Azhar Alvi, and other senior commanders like Asghar Khan Kashmiri and Masood Ilyas. Prominent members of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were also there.
Leaders from Hamas, a Palestinian terrorist group, such as Dr. Khalid Al-Qadoumi, Dr. Naji Zaheer, Mufti Azam, and Bilal Alsallat, joined the event. Hamas officially announced its presence in PoK through Qadoumi, their ambassador based in Iran. The rally saw the display of flags from Palestine, Pakistan, and Hamas on the shawls worn by Hamas terrorists.
Intelligence officials revealed that Pakistan-backed terrorist groups are now following the Hamas blueprint, using religious ideas to spread violence and create tensions in Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and its military are leading a plan to change how the world views the Kashmir issue. They want to link the Kashmir conflict to the Palestine-Israel fight to gain international attention and to radicalize young people by using religious feelings.
Before this major meeting, the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League shared a propaganda video on social media. The video, which was eight minutes long, promoted the slogan “Pak ki Azadi, Kashmir ki Azadi” (Freedom for Pakistan, Freedom for Kashmir). It praised leaders and terrorists like Yasin Malik, Masrat Alam Bhat, and Syed Ali Shah Geelani. It also glorified terrorists like Burhan Wani and Manan Wani, showing their funeral prayers. The video made comparisons between Kashmir and Gaza, encouraging young Kashmiris to rise against India.
Indian security officials believe that the meeting was a planned effort to show the fight in Kashmir and the Hamas fight in Gaza as acts of resistance against occupation.
A Profound Conspiracy
Several banned terrorist groups in Pakistan, such as Jammu and Kashmir United Mujahideen (JKUM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), were involved in the planned Pahalgam terror attack. The attack was carried out by a group of highly skilled Pakistani terrorists. As per the Intelligence sources the attack was planned by Abu Musa (also called Musa Kashmiri), Saifullah Kasuri (also known as Saifullah Khalid), and Rizwan Hanif.
These men were responsible for organizing the attack and executing it with the help of international terrorists. Abu Musa, in the past, had connections with ISIS and was involved in planning attacks against foreigners in India, including plans to target tourists in Kolkata. He later joined LeT and was sent to Jammu and Kashmir to attack security forces and non-local people.
Saifullah Kasuri, also known as Saifullah Khalid, is a senior member of LeT and a close associate of its leader Hafiz Muhammad Saeed. He is involved in many terrorist activities and has been identified by the United States Treasury for his role in terrorism. He has also been linked with Milli Muslim League (MML), a political group accused of supporting LeT’s operations.
Rizwan Hanif, a senior member of JKUM, operates mainly from Rawalakot in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). He is believed to have played a key role in organizing and carrying out the attack in Pahalgam.
An International Jihadi Nexus
Israel’s Ambassador Reuven Azar compared the Pahalgam terror attack in India to the October 7, 2023 attack in Israel. He said that in both cases, innocent people were attacked while enjoying peaceful moments — tourists in Pahalgam and people at a music festival in Israel. He also pointed out that terror groups around the world are working more closely together and copying each other’s methods. He expressed confidence that intelligence agencies are cooperating to stop such attacks.
Hamas, the terrorist group behind the October 7 attack, killed thousands of people in Israel, injured many others, and took hundreds hostage. This led to Israel launching a military campaign in Gaza. Over the last year, Hamas leaders have visited Pakistan multiple times, especially after their attack on Israel. One Hamas team even visited a Pakistani Army facility opened by Army chief Asim Munir, and also went to the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) headquarters in Bahawalpur, near Rajasthan.
In January 2024, Hamas spokesperson Qadoumi was invited to speak in Pakistan’s Parliament. During the session, a Pakistani lawmaker claimed that the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) — a trade route — was meant to counter China’s Belt and Road project, but now that plan had “collapsed” due to the war in Gaza. Hamas leaders also organized an “Al-Aqsa Million March” in Karachi, where Qadoumi praised Pakistan, calling it the “elder brother” for accepting 15 Palestinian prisoners released under a peace deal with Israel.
