KEY POINTS

  • Congress leaders often question India’s military actions against terrorists, weakening national security efforts.
  • Several Congress politicians have made statements that appear sympathetic to Pakistan and terror groups.
  • This pattern raises concerns about Congress’s true stance on terrorism and national interest.

For decades, the Congress party has repeatedly shown a questionable attitude when it comes to India’s fight against terrorism. Time and again, instead of standing with the nation and supporting the armed forces, Congress leaders have chosen to cast doubts on military actions, defend Pakistan, and even give controversial statements that indirectly justify or downplay acts of terror. From the Kargil War in 1999 to the most recent Pahalgam terror attack in 2025, Congress leaders have followed a pattern: criticise the Indian government, blame the armed forces, and soften the image of the enemy.

Congress Leaders Question India’s Military Actions

In April 2025, 26 innocent people were brutally killed by terrorists in Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. This attack was carried out by Lashkar-e-Taiba and the Resistance Front, terror outfits directly linked to Pakistan. But instead of supporting the victims and the armed forces, Congress leaders chose to raise baseless questions. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, during a public rally, accused the Modi government of calling a ceasefire for political benefit. He went further and shamelessly asked how many Rafale jets India had lost in the conflict, indirectly pushing Pakistan’s agenda and insulting the Indian Air Force.

This is not the first time Congress leaders have spoken in such a tone. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi also questioned the military’s success in Operation Sindoor, asking how many aircraft were lost. Congress leader Rashid Alvi doubted whether all terrorists had even been killed, while former minister Saifuddin Soz asked the government to “trust Pakistan’s investigative agencies.” These are not just statements, they are dangerous messages that damage India’s international stand and demoralise our forces.

Sympathy Towards Terrorists and Pakistan

Even during the 2019 Pulwama attack, where 40 CRPF jawans were martyred, Congress showed its true face. Congress leaders like Sam Pitroda and P. Chidambaram openly questioned the Balakot airstrikes carried out by the Indian Air Force. Instead of standing with the brave soldiers, Pitroda asked, “Did we really kill 300 people?” and demanded proof. Congress MP B.K. Hariprasad went as far as calling it a “match-fixing” between Prime Minister Modi and then-Pakistan PM Imran Khan. These statements were not only shocking but also echoed the exact propaganda that Pakistan’s ISI was spreading at the time.

In 2023, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Digvijay Singh called the 2016 surgical strikes against Pakistan “bogus” and doubted their authenticity. He even demanded “video proof” of the strikes. His statements were celebrated by Pakistan’s media and used on global platforms to mock India’s anti-terror operations. The damage such irresponsible comments do to India’s image cannot be ignored.

Impact on National Security and Public Perception

Even in May 2025, Robert Vadra, husband of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, gave a disturbing comment after the Pahalgam attack. He said that the killings happened because Muslims were feeling uncomfortable in India due to the Hindu-Muslim divide. Such narratives attempt to create sympathy for terrorists and shift the blame from Pakistan to Indian society. Similarly, Mani Shankar Aiyar tried to justify the Pahalgam attack as a result of “unresolved Partition issues,” further exposing Congress’s mindset of playing victim politics instead of standing against terror.

Over the years, Congress leaders have also tried to dilute the religious angle of terrorism. Statements like “Terrorism has no religion” by Mumtaz Patel and others denying that terrorists asked about the victims’ religion before killing them show how Congress tries to blur the truth. These comments completely ignore multiple eyewitness reports and official statements confirming that the attackers in Pahalgam targeted people after identifying their religion.

Congress’s history is full of such betrayals. During the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, Congress delayed calling in the NSG commandos. Even after Pakistan’s involvement was proven, some leaders hesitated to call out the real enemy. The 2008 Batla House encounter was also questioned by top Congress leaders like Sonia Gandhi, who reportedly cried after hearing the news of a terrorist being killed, while police officer Mohan Chand Sharma was martyred in the line of duty.

The real question is, why does Congress always hesitate to stand with the nation when it faces attacks from across the border? Why are its leaders always busy questioning the army, giving clean chits to Pakistan, and speaking the language of our enemies? Whether it is for vote-bank politics, appeasement, or ideological confusion, the Congress party’s behaviour poses a serious danger to India’s national security.

In a democracy, questions are important, but there is a difference between asking questions for accountability and weakening your own nation’s fight against terrorism. Congress, unfortunately, has failed to understand this difference. It is high time that the people of India recognise this long pattern of anti-national behaviour and demand accountability from those who speak more like the enemy than citizens of Bharat.
