Backed by government schemes like Startup India Seed Fund Scheme (SISFS), Stand-Up India, and the Credit Guarantee Scheme, these women-led ventures are gaining vital funding, mentorship, and policy support. From tech-driven innovations to retail and mobility, women entrepreneurs in India are setting new benchmarks in business success and global recognition, making India a global hub for inclusive startup growth.

Rise of Women-Led Startups in India

Women Leading Startups:

Nearly half of India’s 1.4 lakh recognized startups now have at least one woman in a leadership role. That’s a big step forward for women in business.

More women are getting good education and support to become entrepreneurs. Society is slowly accepting and encouraging women in leadership roles.

1. Fintech

  • 2024: Accounted for 28–29% of investment in women-led startups. Raised ~$267 M in 2024; $225 M in first half of 2024 alone.

2. E-commerce & D2C (Direct‑to‑Consumer)

  • 2024: Secured 22.8% (~$212 M) of total investment.
  • 2023: Held the highest deal volume: 42 e‑commerce deals, followed by enterprise tech (18) and edtech (12).
  • 2024: E‑commerce led in total funding: $439 M from 57 deals.
  • 2023: D2C dominated women-led retail, with 45 of 174 deals.
  • May 2023: Within top D2C (personal & home-care, F&B, fashion), 3,644 women-led ventures (52% of startups in these verticals)

3. Enterprise / SaaS / Enterprise Tech

  • 2024: Received 14% of women-led startup funding (~$130 M).
  • H1 2024: Enterprise tech raised $122 M.
  • 2023: Held third place in deal volume (18 deals) and top total among women-led: $157 M raised.

4. Health Tech & Cleantech / Femtech

  • 2024: Health tech got 11% ($102 M); cleantech 14.1% ($131 M).
  • 2022: Edtech and consumer succeeded most; femtech funding rose to $98 M, up 38% YoY

5. Edtech

  • 2022: One of the top funding sectors for women-led ventures.
  • Up to 2025: All-time funding ~$5.4 B in women-led startups, second only to retail.

6. Retail (including Fashion-Tech & F&B)

  • All-time: $7.8 B raised by women-led retail ventures.

  • 2023: 3 women-led deals (vs none in 2022) in the transportation sector.
  • 2024: Fintech-lending (#2) and enterprise tech (#3) followed e‑commerce #1

  • Funding Surge (2022–2024): Women-led startups saw $3.9 B in 2022 (~11% of total funding), rising from 8% in 2021.
  • 2023 Dip: Despite challenges, e‑commerce led in deals (42), followed by enterprise tech (18) and edtech (12).

  • Cent Kalyani Scheme
