The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony in Pakistan recently announced a change in the requirements for those planning to perform Haj next year. Unlike before, individuals going for Haj won’t be required to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination. This decision was shared by the ministry on X platform, stating that the condition for a coronavirus vaccine certificate has been eliminated.
In June of the current year, Saudi authorities eased significant restrictions for the Haj pilgrimage. This led to pilgrims being able to visit at maximum capacity for the first time since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Approximately 2 million people gathered at Islam’s holiest site to participate in the pilgrimage.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs started the registration process for Haj 2024 on November 27, and it will continue until December 12. To be eligible, applicants need a passport valid till December 16, 2024. The application process also accepts a passport application token. The ministry’s spokesperson mentioned that about 89,605 Pakistanis are expected to perform Haj under the government scheme next year, still the Covid vaccination certificate is not mandate anymore.
A noteworthy change is that, for the first time, women will have the opportunity to undertake the sacred journey without the traditional requirement of a male companion. Additionally, there is a sponsorship scheme allocating 25,000 seats on a first-come, first-served basis. This offers individuals a chance to participate in the pilgrimage under specific arrangements facilitated by the government.
