Time magazine is choosing its Person of the Year, and the finalists include Taylor Swift, Hollywood strikers, Trump prosecutors, and Barbie. The winner will be revealed on Wednesday.
This year, there were strikes by the Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA, affecting the production of many shows and movies. Taylor Swift had a remarkable year with record-breaking streams and ticket sales for “The Eras Tour,” poised to be the highest-grossing global tour ever. She was previously featured on the 2017 Person of the Year cover for speaking out against sexual misconduct.
Donald Trump, the first U.S. president indicted in history, faces over 90 charges in four separate cases, including election interference and falsifying records. Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” set box office records and attracted a pink-themed audience.
Other finalists for Person of the Year include OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, King Charles III, and Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.
Time’s Person of the Year tradition began in 1927, recognizing individuals, groups, or concepts that shaped headlines. Past recipients include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Martin Luther King Jr., Angela Merkel, Pope Francis, and Greta Thunberg.
