Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently spoke at the inauguration of the SwarVed Mahamandir in Varanasi. He emphasized that Bharat is experiencing a positive shift and urged people to move away from a slave mentality. Modi stressed the importance of taking pride in Bharat heritage, highlighting the reconstruction of cultural symbols after independence, such as the Somnath temple.

The Prime Minister expressed pride in the development of cultural landmarks like Vishwanath Dham, Mahakaal Mahalok, and Kedarnath Dham. He lamented that the neglect of cultural identity weakened the sense of unity and self-respect in the country. Modi also praised Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency, as a city that has significantly contributed to Bharat’s art, knowledge, and values.

During his visit, Modi participated in the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra in Sewapuri, a rural area, and attended the Kashi Sansad Khel Pratiyogita 2023, witnessing live sports events and interacting with winners. The Prime Minister has focused on transforming Varanasi over the past nine years, dedicating and laying the foundation stone for various development projects worth around Rs. 19,150 crore.

Among the inaugurated projects, Modi opened the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Nagar-New Bhaupur Dedicated Freight Corridor Project, costing around Rs. 10,900 crore. Other railway projects included the Ballia-Ghazipur City rail line doubling project and the Indara-Dohrighat rail line gauge conversion project. The Varanasi-New Delhi Vande Bharat Express train, Dohrighat-Mau MEMU train, and the 10,000th locomotive made by Banaras Locomotive Works were also flagged off.

Additionally, the Prime Minister inaugurated the green-field Shivpur-Phulwaria-Lahartara road, two ROBs, and projects like strengthening and widening of 20 roads, Sangam Ghat road in Kaithi village, and residential buildings in Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Hospital. Housing facilities for police personnel, including two multi-storey barrack buildings and smart bus shelters at nine locations, were also inaugurated.
