In a heart-wrenching incident at Prague’s Charles University, a devastating shooting unfolded at the Faculty of Arts building, leaving at least 15 lives lost and numerous others injured. This tragic event has been marked as one of the most severe shootings in the Czech Republic’s recent memory, shaking the community to its core. The assailant, identified as 24-year-old David K., was a student at the university and had recently lost his father to a fatal shooting in their village, Houstoun.
David K., enrolled in the Institute of World History at the Faculty of Arts, was scheduled to attend a lecture on the day of the shooting. Armed with a firearm, he was initially sought in a different university building but diverted to the main arts faculty building, raising questions about his motives. An email alert during the chaos instructed Faculty of Arts staff to secure themselves, barricading doors and taking safety precautions.
In response to the unfolding crisis, the police swiftly evacuated the area, deployed ambulance units to tend to the injured, and urged civilians to seek shelter indoors. Interior Minister Vit Rakusan assured the public that there was no indication linking the crime to international terrorism, emphasizing the importance of complying with police directives.

The assailant, David Kozak, reportedly drew inspiration from a recent school shooting in Russia, as disturbing messages on social media platforms and alleged ties to a prior shooting in Russia have surfaced in the aftermath.
