In the aftermath of the recent terror attack in Poonch that claimed the lives of four Army personnel, opposition parties have begun expressing their concerns and questioning the government’s response.

Sanjay Raut’s Critique: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut criticized the government, comparing the Poonch incident to the Pulwama terror attack in 2019. Raut questioned the government’s motives and accused them of negligence, stating, “Yesterday’s terrorist attack in Poonch is a repeat of the Pulwama attack. The govt is sleeping.” He also expressed concerns about potential political exploitation of the sacrifice made by the jawans.

Raut raised questions about the government’s awareness, citing past incidents like the intrusion into the Parliament. He emphasized the seriousness of the situation, pointing out the recent spike in soldier casualties. Raut warned against raising questions about the Poonch attack, fearing potential repercussions of being thrown out of Delhi or the country.

Farooq Abdullah’s Assessment: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah, highlighted that terrorism persists in the Union Territory. Hours after the attack, he remarked, “Even today there is terrorism in J&K, there has just been an incident. Terrorism has not ended.” Abdullah criticized the government’s focus on promoting tourism in Kashmir, expressing concern that even a single tourist being harmed could deter visitors.

Details of the Terror Attack: The terrorist attack occurred in the Thanamandi area of the Rajouri sector, targeting two military vehicles carrying troops. The incident resulted in the tragic loss of four Army personnel, with three others sustaining injuries. The attackers ambushed the vehicles around 3:45 PM on December 21, prompting an immediate retaliatory response from the Army.

Security Measures Heightened: In response to the attack, security forces have intensified their cordon and search operations in Poonch. The Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch highway, where the incident took place, has witnessed heightened security measures to prevent further untoward incidents.

As the nation mourns the loss of brave soldiers, the political discourse surrounding the incident underscores the need for a thorough examination of the security situation and a united effort to address the challenges posed by terrorism in the region.
