BLACKPINK, consisting of Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, and Lisa, debuted in 2016 with the single album Square One, featuring hits like Whistle and Boombayah. Over the years, they gained immense popularity with chart-topping songs such as Ddu-Du Ddu-Du (2018), Kill This Love (2019), and How You Like That (2020). Notably, their Born Pink World Tour (2022–23) became the highest-grossing concert tour by a female group, solidifying their status as global music icons.
In a recent announcement, YG Entertainment confirmed that the individual contracts of BLACKPINK members—Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, and Lisa—for solo activities will not be renewed. The agency expressed its support for the members’ solo endeavors and stated that they would cheer them on with warm hearts.
The decision comes after the group, as a whole, renewed their contracts with YG Entertainment for continued group activities. Despite not pursuing additional contracts for individual endeavors, YG Entertainment assured fans that they would fully support BLACKPINK in their group activities.
YG Entertainment’s Statement
In a statement, YG Entertainment revealed, “BLACKPINK recently renewed their contracts with YG for their group activities, and we have agreed not to proceed with additional contracts for [the members’] individual activities.” The agency pledged to provide unwavering support to BLACKPINK’s collective pursuits while encouraging the members in their solo ventures.
Group Activities to Persist
Addressing rumors about the group’s potential disbandment, YG Entertainment had previously announced in December that BLACKPINK would continue their group activities with the agency. The decision was reached after careful discussions, with the agency expressing deep trust in the members.
Yang Hyun Suk, YG Entertainment’s executive producer, conveyed his happiness in continuing the relationship with BLACKPINK. He expressed confidence that the group would shine even brighter in the global music market, representing not only the agency but also the K-pop genre.
