Trouble seems to be brewing for Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, who is already under scrutiny for her alleged involvement in the ‘Cash for Query’ scam. Supreme Court lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai, whom Moitra referred to as her ‘jilted ex,’ has filed a complaint with the CBI accusing her of carrying out illegal surveillance on him in collaboration with senior police officers in West Bengal.

According to Dehadrai’s complaint, Moitra has been allegedly tracking his physical location using his mobile phone number. The lawyer claims that Moitra had previously admitted to conducting similar surveillance on her ex-boyfriend, Suhaan Mukherji, with the help of senior Bengal Police officers. This revelation contradicts Moitra’s previous stance, where she had criticized the Modi government over allegations of illegal surveillance using the Pegasus spyware.

Dehadrai’s complaint, dated December 29, 2023, details Moitra’s misuse of her connections with senior police officers to obtain Call Detail Records (CDR) of private individuals, including himself. He expressed concern for his safety, citing Moitra’s past threats and unwelcome visits to his residence.

Earlier in November, Dehadrai had accused Moitra of trespassing and intimidating him. The ongoing feud between the two also involved a custody battle over Dehadrai’s pet dog, ‘Henry,’ which Moitra allegedly stole and later returned.

The ‘Cash for Query’ matter involving Moitra took a significant turn on October 14 when BJP MP Nishkant Dubey sought an inquiry against her. The complaint was based on a letter from Supreme Court lawyer Anant Dehadrai, who alleged that Moitra’s parliamentary questions benefitted businessman Darshan Hiranandani. Moitra admitted to sharing credentials with Hiranandani, and the IT ministry reported unauthorized access to her parliamentary ID from Dubai.

As a result, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) initiated an inquiry into the allegations against the TMC MP. The latest accusations of illegal surveillance add another layer to the controversies surrounding Mahua Moitra, raising questions about her conduct and integrity.
