In a recent operation, Israeli soldiers successfully completed operations in the Towers Neighbourhood of northern Gaza, uncovering and destroying a complex used for weapons production by Hamas. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) announced on Friday that the operation targeted a chemical laboratory, tunnel shafts, and anti-tank firing positions within the tall buildings dominating the area.
According to the IDF, buildings in the Towers Neighbourhood were utilized as anti-tank and anti-aircraft firing positions, as well as observation posts. Rocket launchers were found armed and ready to fire, indicating a significant threat to the region. The soldiers also uncovered booby-trapped buildings and tunnels, showcasing the complex nature of the Hamas infrastructure in the area.
Seizure of Weapons and Combat Operations
Israeli forces seized a substantial amount of weaponry during the operation, including sniper rifles, RPG launchers, rifles, and pistols. The IDF reported that the complex contained a chemical laboratory dedicated to the production of weapons, along with a related warehouse. Combat engineers and air strikes were deployed to destroy the complex and its tunnels, ensuring the elimination of potential threats.
Casualties and Continued Search Efforts
The IDF’s announcement also highlighted the toll of recent conflicts, stating that at least 1,200 people were killed in Hamas’s attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border on October 7. Additionally, it was reported that 129 individuals, including men, women, children, soldiers, and foreigners, are currently held captive in Gaza by Hamas. Israeli authorities are actively working to identify bodies and search for human remains, with some individuals still unaccounted for.
The operation in the Towers Neighbourhood underscores the ongoing tensions and security challenges in the region, as Israeli forces take proactive measures to dismantle threats posed by militant organizations.
