Australia’s High Commissioner to Bharat, Philip Green OAM, recently showed his support for Bharat’s ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign by getting a beard trim at Max Hairdresser near his office in Delhi’s Tajdar Babar Market. He shared pictures of the experience on social media, encouraging others to go local and prioritize small shopkeepers and street vendors, in line with Prime Minister Modi’s call to be vocal for local.
In a post on X, Green expressed his satisfaction with the local service, stating, “Got a quick beard trim this morning at Max Hairdresser near the office. Great service! Go Local! #VocalForLocal #AusomeIndia #GoDesi.” This gesture aligns with the spirit of the campaign, emphasizing the importance of supporting local businesses, not just during festivals but as a continuous effort.
PM Modi had previously urged citizens to prioritize the purchase of local goods, emphasizing that everything needed is available within the country. The ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative aims to boost the local economy and promote self-reliance.
Highlighting the growing bilateral ties between India and Australia, Green mentioned that the two-way trade has increased by over 50 percent in the last five years. He expressed India’s paramount significance in their relationship, describing it as the most consequential one in his career. As Australia’s 22nd High Commissioner to India, Green is committed to proactive engagement and driving the relationship to new heights.
During a keynote address at the Asia Society Policy Institute in the national capital, Green stated, “For me, assuming this role as Australia’s 22nd High Commissioner to India is the pinnacle of my career. India is the most consequential relationship, at the most critical moment, I have ever worked on. It is a privilege for me to be here today.” He emphasized his dedication to advancing the partnership between the two countries and expressed his commitment to achieving more during his tenure.
In line with the directive from the Prime Minister, Green affirmed that their relationship is at its highest point in history, but he is not here to rest on laurels. Instead, he is determined to drive the relationship further and faster, focusing on getting more things done to strengthen the ties between Australia and Bharat.
