In a recent address at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, the President of Timor-Leste, Jose Ramos-Horta, expressed his continued support for Bharat’s bid to become a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Ramos-Horta, who previously served as the Senior Minister for Foreign Affairs, emphasized his wholehearted backing for Bharat’s rightful place in the UNSC during his earlier position. Not only did he advocate for Bharat, but he also supported Indonesia’s inclusion as a permanent member, aiming for a reformed, expanded, and more representative UNSC.
During the summit, Ramos-Horta praised the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit as a globally renowned forum that fosters business networking, knowledge sharing, strategic partnerships, inclusive growth, and sustainable development. He commended the entrepreneurial spirit of the state of Gujarat, which has emerged as an industrial leader and a favored investment destination.
The President of Timor-Leste had a “fruitful meeting” with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gandhinagar, marked by warm exchanges and a shared commitment to collaboration. The discussions focused on development partnerships in key sectors such as energy, IT, FinTech, health, and capacity building, reflecting a mutual interest in fostering growth and progress.
Prime Minister Modi noted the special nature of his meeting with Ramos-Horta, given Mahatma Gandhi’s influence on the President’s life and work. The discussions emphasized the importance of shared advancements in various domains and showcased a deepening bond between Delhi and Dili.
In a related development, President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique, who also addressed the summit in Gandhinagar, arrived in India on Tuesday. PM Modi expressed delight at the meeting, highlighting its significance due to President Nyusi’s ties with Gujarat. The encounter was made even more special as Nyusi had previously pursued a course at the prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. The discussions between the two leaders covered a comprehensive range of subjects, underscoring the depth and breadth of the bilateral relationship.
This year marks the tenth edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, with the theme ‘Gateway to the Future.’ The summit celebrates ’20 Years of Vibrant Gujarat as the Summit of Success,’ showcasing the state’s remarkable journey as a hub for success and development.
