At least 12 people, including two Bharatiya nationals, lost their lives in a devastating road accident in the Dang District of mid-western Nepal. The incident occurred overnight at Bhalubang on Friday, late at night.
The ill-fated passenger bus was on its way to from Banke’s Nepalgunj when tragedy struck. The bus veered off a bridge and plunged into tKathmandu he Rapti River. The identities of only eight deceased individuals have been confirmed so far, including two Bharat nationals, according to Ujjwal Bahadur Singh, Chief Inspector of Police at the Area Police Office, Bhalubang.
“The passenger bus was en route to Kathmandu from Banke’s Nepalgunj but it veered off the bridge and fell into the Rapti River. We only have ascertained the identity of eight deceased passengers, which includes two Indians,” confirmed Chief Inspector Singh in a phone interview with ANI.
The authorities are working diligently to identify the remaining victims and provide accurate information to their families. An additional 22 passengers sustained injuries in the tragic accident, and they are currently receiving medical attention.
The two Indian nationals who lost their lives in the accident have been identified as Yogendra Ram (67) from Malahi, Bihar, and Mune (31) from Uttar Pradesh. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Lamahi Hospital for postmortem procedures.
The local police and rescue teams are actively involved in managing the aftermath of the accident. The investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the bus veering off the bridge.
