The citizens of Iowa faced freezing temperatures as they gathered across the state for the initial Republican nominating contest in the United States Presidential Elections, where Former US President Donald Trump emerged as the front-runner. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley aim to position themselves as the main alternatives.
After winning the Iowa caucuses, Donald Trump told Americans on Monday, “It is time for our country to come together”, cementing his status as the likely Republican challenger to take on President Joe Biden in November’s election.
Haley got 20% votes, while 16% of Iowans chose Ron DeSantis. Vivek Ramaswamy, former Arkansas Governor, and Texas pastor Ryan Binkley ran in single digits. Acknowledging the low votes, Ramaswamy ended his White House bid on Monday, choosing to endo rse Trump. His campaign did catch attention, however, it failed to bring him enough votes in the Republican Party’s first nominating contest in Iowa.
Meanwhile, Trump publicly denounced Ramaswamy on the Truth Social, labeling him a “fraud”. He asserted that a vote for the Indian-American was a vote for the “other side.”
Trump on Monday shared a video for his 2024 US presidential campaign, where he claimed that God created him to be the “caretaker” of the Americans. The narrator in the three-minute-long campaign video goes on to say, “And on June 14th, 1946, God looked down on his planned paradise and said ‘I need a caretaker’, so God gave us Trump.”
According to the reports, former President Trump is set to follow up his Iowa victory with a trip to New York on Tuesday, January 16, where he will attend his civil trial in a defamation case brought by E. Jean Carroll. He is then scheduled to travel to New Hampshire for a rally.
