In a recent address at the USC-India Innovation Summit in Mumbai, U.S. Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, emphasized the significant role that the United States and Bharat, as the two greatest democracies, can play as moral leaders on the global stage. Garcetti underscored the contrast between dictatorships and democracies, stating that the U.S. and Bharat have the opportunity to demonstrate what it means to be moral leaders in a time when the world needs it.
Garcetti expressed optimism about the current state of US-Bharat relations, declaring that the ongoing year marked the best in the history of their bilateral ties. He characterized it as not just a new peak but a foundation for further collaboration and cooperation.
During his speech, the U.S. envoy commended Bharat’s achievements in various sectors, including health, technology, and finance. He highlighted Bharat’s transformation from being perceived as merely a back office to now being a leader in generating breakthroughs in health, technology, and finance.
Furthermore, Garcetti stressed the importance of deepening ties between the University of Southern California (USC) and Bharat counterparts to advance the U.S.-Bharat agenda. He outlined the potential for collaboration in technology, trade, investment, culture, and people-to-people exchanges, envisioning joint efforts in areas such as healthcare advancements, film production, educational exchanges, and fostering a more secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
Echoing Garcetti’s sentiments, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar noted a shift in the way the U.S. views India, highlighting a more equal and mutually beneficial relationship. He acknowledged the growing recognition of India’s importance in the technology world and noted the changing enthusiasm of American businesses for India.
The positive outlook on U.S.-Bharat relations was further reinforced by President Joe Biden, who recently described the friendship between the two nations as among the most consequential in the world. The leaders of both countries signed several major deals aimed at elevating their strategic technology partnership, signaling a commitment to deeper collaboration in various domains.
