During the acceptance speech, an elated Shankar Mahadevan expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you boys. Thank you God, family, friends, and India. India, we are proud of you…Last but not the least, I would like to dedicate this award to my wife whom every note of my music is dedicated to.” His heartfelt words resonated with the audience, eliciting a loud cheer.
The award-winning album, ‘This Moment,’ released on June 30 last year, features eight mesmerizing songs crafted by a stellar lineup including John McLaughlin (guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Shankar Mahadevan (vocalist), V Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist). The band faced tough competition in the Grammy nominations, contending with artists like Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido.
Moreover, in an extraordinary night for Zakir Hussain, he also secured the Grammy for ‘Best Global Music Performance’ for his exceptional contribution to ‘Pashto.’ The winning track, featuring Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer alongside virtuoso flute player Rakesh Chaurasia, showcased the depth of musical talent involved. Hussain’s remarkable feat included a total of three Grammy wins, while Chaurasia himself earned two prestigious awards.
The 66th annual Grammy Awards 2024, held in Los Angeles, marked a historic moment for Indian music as ‘Shakti’ and Zakir Hussain achieved international recognition for their outstanding contributions to the global music scene.
