Preparations are underway in Abu Dhabi for the inauguration of the first Hindu temple, named ‘BAPS Mandir,’ by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 14. This milestone event has generated immense excitement among the Bharatiya community in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Volunteers of the temple expressed their joy, calling it a dream come true for everyone involved.
Vishal Patel, a lead volunteer at the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi, shared his enthusiasm, emphasizing the significance of the temple for the Bharatiya community in the Middle East. He expressed gratitude towards the leadership of the UAE for generously gifting 27 acres of land for the temple’s construction.
The temple holds profound cultural and symbolic importance, representing the harmonious relationship between India and the Gulf region. Prime Minister Modi’s personal involvement since 2015 underscores the shared commitment to cultural understanding and mutual respect between the two nations.
During his visit to the UAE on February 13-14, PM Modi will inaugurate the BAPS Hindu Temple, marking a historic moment in the cultural landscape of the region. Additionally, preparations are underway at the Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi, where PM Modi will address the Indian diaspora at ‘Ahlan Modi’ on February 13.
The BAPS Hindu Mandir, situated in the Abu Mureikhah area, is set to become the Middle East’s first traditional Hindu stone temple. Its construction was made possible by the generous donation of land by the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The UAE Government’s gesture of allocating land for the temple during its Year of Tolerance reflects a message of love, peace, and harmony. The temple’s construction signifies a spirit of cultural peace and collaboration, symbolizing the enduring friendship between India and the UAE.
In anticipation of the inauguration, India’s Ambassador to UAE, Sunjay Sudhir, visited the BAPS Hindu Temple last month to assess the progress of its construction. Additionally, Prime Minister Modi graciously accepted the invitation extended by Swami Ishwarcharandas of the BAPS during their meeting in December, expressing enthusiastic support for the historic and iconic temple.
As the date of the inauguration draws near, excitement continues to build among the Indian diaspora in Abu Dhabi and beyond. The BAPS Hindu Mandir stands as a testament to the values of tolerance, understanding, and cultural exchange, fostering closer ties between India and the UAE.
