The trip comes against the backdrop of Qatar releasing eight Bharatiya citizens after commuting their death sentences, following New Delhi’s request.
The act of deft diplomacy between Bharat and Qatar signifies that relations were heading in the right way. PM Modi’s meeting with the Emir can better the relations and set the foundation for the coming years.
However, PM Modi on Wednesday met his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, after completing his two-day trip to the UAE.
Taking to his social media accounts, PM Modi stated he looked forward to the ‘fruitful Qatar visit’ that would strengthen ties between the two nations while also posting a picture of the meeting.

On Monday, seven of the eight Bharatiya citizens, who had been jailed in Qatar for months, returned to Bharat.
In a statement, Bharat’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) welcomed the release of eight Bharatiya citizens and thanked the Qatari Emir.
“The Government of Bharat welcomes the release of eight Bharatiya citizens working for the Dahra Global company who were detained in Qatar. Seven out of the eight of them have returned to Bharat,” said the MEA in a brief statement.
One of the Bharatiya citizens who returned to Bharat said: “It wouldn’t have been feasible for us to stand here without the intervention of PM Modi. And it also happened due to the consistent efforts of the Government of Bharat.”
