‘Many Bharatiyas have been released from the Russian Army after New Delhi’s purposeful intervention. The response came after the media reports claimed that Bharatiyas in the Russian army are seeking help for discharge’, said Bharat’s External Affairs Ministry on Monday.
The external affairs ministry admitted that several Bharatiyas have served and are presently serving in the Russian army. It said, ‘We have seen many media reports that Bharatiyas seeking help for discharge amid the war in Ukraine’.
“Russian authorities take up such cases very seriously if it’s brought to the attention of the Indian Embassy in Moscow and the Ministry also takes the case with the Russian Embassy in New Delhi”, said EAM S Jaishakar.
The Bharatiya foreign ministry’s current statement comes three days after it praised Bharatiyas for staying away from conflict after reports appeared about some Bharatiya nationals being forced to fight for Russia with fraudulent travel agents facilitating it.
“As a matter of top priority, we remain committed, to pursuing with the Russian authorities all the important cases of Bharatiya nationals for an early discharge from the Russian army,” the Bharatiya foreign ministry said on Monday.
A report claimed that many Bharatiyas were promised jobs inside the Russian territory but were enrolled in the Russian military by fraudulent travel agents. These Bharatiya nationals reportedly received misleading translations of the documents and underwent military training against their understanding.
