Bharat’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, spoke at an event in South Korea highlighting Bharat’s robust manufacturing and technology development. Jaishankar emphasized the evolving responsibility of both New Delhi and Seoul in reshaping the global order. He emphasized that the partnership between the two nations could significantly impact the Indo-Pacific region.
Jaishankar acknowledged Bharat’s historical oversight in prioritizing manufacturing and technology development but highlighted a shift since 2014 under the Modi Government. He outlined improvements in infrastructure, innovation, education, and skilling that have enabled initiatives like ‘Make in India’ across various domains. These collaborations aim to facilitate access to the Indian market for partners and serve as a platform for global production.

The Minister took to social media to express confidence in the potential of the Bharat-South Korea partnership, asserting that by broadening horizons, it can emerge as a significant factor in the Indo-Pacific and beyond. He further emphasized Bharat’s strong recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, the growth of startup cultures, and the emergence of unicorns, positioning New Delhi to become the world’s third-largest economy.
Highlighting Bharat’s emergence as an attractive destination for investment, Jaishankar underscored the need for more political discussions, strategic conversations, and business and technology interactions between Bharat and South Korea. He stressed the importance of intensifying engagement in various spheres to realize the full potential of the partnership.
Jaishankar pointed out the increasing significance of Bharat’s partnership with South Korea in an uncertain and volatile world. He urged both nations to introspect and strategize on how to enhance cooperation further. He emphasized the importance of understanding the political dimensions of the relationship, noting similarities between the two nations as democracies, market economies, and believers in the rule of law.
Earlier in the day, Jaishankar held meetings with South Korea’s Trade, Industry, and Energy Minister, Ahn Dukgeun, discussing trade and economic cooperation. He also engaged with South Korean think tank representatives and the Director of National Security in Seoul, underscoring the multifaceted nature of Bharat-South Korea relations.
