Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck expressed immense joy over the visit of Bharatiya Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bhutan, emphasizing the significant responsibilities Modi holds with global implications. Speaking at the Tendrelthang Festival Ground in Thimphu, the King highlighted the unique and enduring partnership between Bhutan and India, expressing pride in India’s achievements across various fields.
The Bhutanese King underscored the importance of Prime Minister Modi’s visit at this juncture, acknowledging his serious global responsibilities. He lauded Modi’s support and friendship for Bhutan, expressing gratitude for his decision to visit the Himalayan nation. King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck commended Modi’s leadership qualities, describing him as an extraordinary and exemplary leader who shoulders the responsibility of leading a significant portion of the world’s population.
According to the King, a great leader must possess qualities of compassion, vision, and competence, all of which he believes Prime Minister Modi embodies. He emphasized that Modi’s leadership has been instrumental in India’s progress and prosperity, which bodes well for Bhutan’s future as well. In recognition of Modi’s leadership and India’s steadfast friendship, the Bhutanese King conferred upon him Bhutan’s highest civilian award, the ‘Order of Druk Gyalpo’.
During their meeting, Prime Minister Modi and King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck reaffirmed their commitment to the special and enduring ties shared between India and Bhutan. They discussed avenues to further enhance bilateral relations and take them to new heights. The meeting was marked by warmth and camaraderie, reflecting the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations.
PM Modi’s visit to Bhutan was met with traditional Bhutanese hospitality, including a grand Chipdrel procession and a Guard of Honour ceremony at the Tashichhodzong Palace in Thimphu. The welcoming gestures underscored the warmth and vibrancy of the relationship between Bharat and Bhutan.
The two-day state visit saw PM Modi being welcomed by Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay at the airport, marking the beginning of a visit aimed at strengthening ties and fostering mutual cooperation between the two neighboring nations.
