In a devastating incident early Tuesday morning, a bridge collapse in Baltimore Harbor has left six workers missing and presumed dead. The catastrophe occurred when a massive cargo ship, suffering from a power loss, collided with the structure, leading to the closure of a vital port on the US Eastern Seaboard.
According to US Coast Guard and Maryland State Police officials, the chances of finding the missing individuals alive are slim, given the frigid water temperature and the time elapsed since the collapse.

The incident unfolded around 1:30 a.m. (0530 GMT) when the Singapore-flagged container vessel named Dali, en route to Sri Lanka, struck a support pylon of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The impact caused a section of the 1.6-mile (2.57 km) span to crumple into the icy waters, resulting in vehicles and people plunging into the river.
While rescuers managed to save two survivors, one of whom is hospitalized, search-and-rescue efforts were halted approximately 18 hours after the tragedy. The workers involved were part of a crew tasked with road maintenance on the bridge at the time of the accident.
Prior to the collapse, the ship had reported a power failure, allowing officials to halt traffic on the bridge, potentially averting further casualties. Maryland Governor Wes Moore praised the swift actions, describing those involved in stopping traffic as heroes who saved lives.
Governor Moore also reassured the public that the bridge was up to code and free from known structural issues, indicating no foul play in the incident. As investigations continue, the Baltimore Harbor community mourns the loss and hopes for closure for the families affected by this tragic event.
