‘A date has been set to seize Rafah in southern Gaza as truce talks with Hamas in Cairo are ongoing but do not appear close to the finish line’, said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In a video statement in Hebrew, Netanyahu reiterated his position in a video statement in Hebrew that a ground military operation in Rafah, bordering Egypt, where more than 1.5 million Palestinians have taken shelter, is essential for victory in the war.
On Monday, he said, ‘It will happen. There is a date’. On Tuesday, he said Israel will proceed with its aim of eliminating all of Hamas’s brigades, including in Rafah.
‘There is no force in the world that will stop us and there are many forces that are trying to do so, but it will not help since this enemy, after what it did, will never do it again’, Netanyahu said.
This happens as at the end of the weekend Hamas was presented with a new proposal in ceasefire talks but one that does not appear to be able to secure a deal.
