Recently, Bharat has expressed its strong protest against the raising of separatist slogans during an event in Toronto, Canada, which was attended by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The Ministry of External Affairs summoned the Canadian Deputy High Commissioner to convey Bharat’s deep concern over the incident.
During a Khalsa parade on Sunday, attended by Trudeau, opposition leader Pierre Poilievre, and Jagmeet Singh of the New Democratic Party (NDP), pro-Khalistan chants echoed in the air.
Bharat’s Ministry of External Affairs emphasized its deep concern over the situation, citing the political space in Canada for separatism and extremism.

Ministry of external affairs Randhir Jaiswal stated that, “The Government of India’s deep concern and strong protest was conveyed at such disturbing actions being allowed to continue unchecked at the event. This illustrates once again the political space that has been given in Canada to separatism, extremism and violence. Their continued expressions not only impact India-Canada relations but also encourage a climate of violence and criminality in Canada to the detriment of its own citizens.”
The government’s protest highlighted the alarming trend of separatist sentiments being given a platform in Canada, which not only affects India-Canada relations but also poses a threat to Canada’s own social harmony and security.
As Trudeau addressed the crowd during the event, pro-Khalistani slogans were repeatedly heard, sparking further tension.
The video footage of the rally quickly circulated on social media, drawing attention to the issue. The presence of Khalistani separatists and Canada’s perceived leniency towards their activities have strained bilateral relations between Bharat and Canada.

Khalistani separatists have been linked to incidents of vandalism at Hindu temples and attacks on members of the Indian diaspora in Canada.
These actions have escalated concerns about the spread of Hinduphobia and anti-Bharat sentiments in Canadian society. Bharat has urged Canada to take stronger measures to curb such activities and prevent the escalation of violence and criminality.
The deterioration of Bharat-Canada ties underscores the need for both countries to address issues related to separatism and extremism firmly and collaboratively.
