Recently in an announcement, Israel’s Defence Minister Yoav Gallant stated that Israel will persist with its military operation in the southern Gaza city of Rafah until Hamas forces in the area are eliminated or until Hamas releases one of the Israeli hostages it holds.
Gallant made this declaration on Tuesday, emphasizing the seriousness of Israel’s mission in Rafah.
As per Gallant, the operation will not cease until Hamas is eradicated from the Rafah region and the entire Gaza Strip, or until the safe return of the first Israeli hostage. This indicates Israel’s unwavering commitment to achieving its objectives in the region, prioritizing the safety of its citizens.
Moreover, Gallant asserted that Israel is prepared to escalate its military offensive in Rafah if progress is not made in negotiations to secure the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas. He emphasized Israel’s willingness to negotiate and make compromises to bring home the hostages, but warned that if this option fails, the operation will intensify.
The decision to enter Rafah and seize control of its strategic border crossing with Egypt was made by Israel late on Monday. This move came after Israel rejected a cease-fire proposal put forward by Hamas, citing its failure to address Israel’s fundamental demands. Despite this, Israel has agreed to continue negotiations in pursuit of a resolution.
Gallant’s statement underscores Israel’s determination to ensure the safety of its citizens and to confront threats posed by militant groups like Hamas.
The ongoing operation in Rafah is a testament to Israel’s commitment to safeguarding its borders and maintaining security in the region.
