The Israeli military has announced the discovery of the bodies of three Israeli hostages who were taken by Hamas during the October 7 attack. Among the deceased is 22-year-old German-Israeli Shani Louk, whose photograph, depicting her body in the back of a pickup truck, became a symbol of the militants’ brutal assault on southern Israeli communities.
The military also identified the other two victims as Amit Buskila, a 28-year-old woman, and Itzhak Gelerenter, a 56-year-old man. According to Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, all three were killed by Hamas at the Nova music festival, an outdoor event near the Gaza border. Their bodies were subsequently taken into Palestinian territory. The military has not provided further details on the exact locations where the bodies were found.
During the October 7 attack, Hamas-led militants killed approximately 1,200 people, predominantly civilians, and abducted around 250 others. About half of these hostages have been released, primarily through prisoner exchanges during a weeklong cease-fire in November.
Israel reports that approximately 100 hostages remain captive in Gaza, along with the bodies of around 30 more individuals. The ongoing Israeli campaign in Gaza, following the attack, has resulted in the deaths of over 35,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza health officials.
