Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico narrowly survived an assassination attempt, leaving the country in shock and concern. The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed by prosecutors, is ordered to remain in custody due to fears of escape or further criminal activity.
The incident occurred as Fico greeted supporters following a government meeting in Handlova. The suspect, reportedly a 71-year-old retiree and amateur poet, was swiftly apprehended at the scene. Responding, prosecutors are seeking detainment of the suspect through Slovakia’s Specialized Criminal Court. Media access to the courthouse in Pezinok, where proceedings are held, is restricted, with heightened security measures in place.
