A social media campaign criticizing Israel’s actions in Rafah, Gaza, has sparked a strong counter-response from the Israeli government. The campaign, known as “All Eyes on Rafah,” went viral with an AI-generated image drawing attention to Israel’s airstrikes in Rafah.
Responding, Israel launched its phrase, “Where were your eyes on October 7,” highlighting the deadly attack by Hamas on Israel that occurred on that date.
The October 7 Hamas Attack
On October 7, 2023, Hamas militants carried out a surprise attack on Israel, resulting in the deaths of nearly 1,200 Israeli citizens and the taking of several hostages. The attack shocked the nation and prompted a severe military response from Israel aimed at dismantling Hamas. The Israeli government has been vocal in questioning why international attention and outrage did not equally focus on this attack.
Social Media and Celebrity Involvement
The “All Eyes on Rafah” campaign gained traction on social media platforms, especially on X (formerly known as Twitter), where numerous celebrities, public figures, and everyday users shared the AI-generated image. This image was designed to raise awareness about the impact of Israeli airstrikes in Rafah, part of the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Responding, Israel posted a photo with the text “Where were your eyes on October 7,” depicting a militant with a rifle in front of a baby, aiming to remind the world of the violent acts committed by Hamas.

Following the October 7 attack, a ceasefire was implemented in November, leading to the release of several Israeli hostages. Despite this temporary peace, Israel claims that 99 hostages remain in captivity, with 31 confirmed dead. The situation remains tense as efforts continue to secure the release of those still held by Hamas.
The health ministry in Gaza reports that at least 31,112 Palestinians have died due to Israel’s military actions aimed at weakening Hamas. These actions have drawn significant international criticism, with accusations that Israel has targeted civilian areas like the Rafah camp.
Israel, however, denies these allegations, stating that any damage to civilian areas was a result of secondary fires from strikes on Hamas weapon facilities.
The conflict between Israel and Hamas is deeply rooted and complex, with both sides suffering significant losses. Israel’s military operations in Gaza are part of a broader strategy to prevent future attacks and dismantle Hamas’ capabilities.
However, the human toll and the suffering of civilians on both sides have sparked a global debate about the ethics and effectiveness of such military actions.
As the conflict continues, the exchange of social media campaigns highlights the polarized views and deep-seated tensions between Israel and Hamas. The phrases “All Eyes on Rafah” and “Where were your eyes on October 7” encapsulate the struggle for international sympathy and support, each side seeking to justify its actions and underscore the suffering it has endured.
