In the continuing Russia-Ukraine conflict, officials from the Russian-occupied regions in Ukraine reported that Ukrainian attacks have killed at least 27 people. Both the countries also continued their drone attacks overnight into Saturday.
Deadly Strike in Kherson
A significant attack occurred on Friday in the small town of Sadove in the Kherson region, which is partially occupied by Russia. Vladimir Saldo, a governor backed by Moscow, stated that 22 people were killed and 15 were injured.
Saldo explained that Ukrainian forces first hit the town with a French-made guided bomb. They then launched a second attack with a US-supplied HIMARS missile. He claimed this second strike was intentional to cause more casualties, as residents had come out to help the injured from the first attack.
Further east in the Luhansk region, another area partially occupied by Russia, a missile attack on the regional capital resulted in more deaths. Leonid Pasechnik, the Russia-installed governor, reported that the death toll had risen to five after two more bodies were found in the rubble. He also mentioned that 60 people were wounded in this attack. Ukraine did not make any comments about either of these assaults.

Ongoing Drone Warfare
Drone attacks between the two nations have persisted. Ukraine launched several drones across Russian territory overnight on Friday. Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed that 25 drones were destroyed over different regions, including Kuban, Astrakhan, Tula, and the Crimean peninsula.
For the first time, Ukrainian drones were also shot down over North Ossetia, a region in the North Caucasus, about 900 km (560 miles) from the frontlines in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region. While Russia’s Ministry of Defense said one drone was downed, regional Governor Sergei Menyailo reported that three drones were intercepted, targeting a military airfield.
Ukraine’s Defense Against Drones
Ukraine’s air defense managed to shoot down nine out of 13 Russian drones overnight. These drones were intercepted over the central Poltava region, the southeastern Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions, and the northeastern Kharkiv region. Serhiy Lysak, the governor of Dnipropetrovsk, reported that the drone attack caused damage to both commercial and residential buildings.
