A day after Pakistani backed terror outfit, TRF attacked a bus carrying Hindu pilgrimages in Jammu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday formally responded to congratulatory posts from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and former premier Nawaz Sharif, reiterating Bharat’s commitment to the “well-being and security of its people”.
Acknowledging Bharatiya leader’s electoral success as a reflection of public confidence in his leadership, Pakistan’s former PM Nawaz Sharif extended his congratulations to PM Modi for winning a third consecutive term, however, he mentioned nothing about the ghastly terror attack in Reasi.
In his response to Nawaz Sharif’s message, PM Modi tweeted, “Appreciate your message @NawazSharifMNS. The people of India have always stood for peace, security, and progressive ideas. Advancing the well-being and security of our people shall always remain our priority.”
Although the exchange of words marked a cordial understanding, in the last week, Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, refrained from greeting PM Modi on his third term, rather mentioned it would be “premature” to congratulate PM Modi due to the ongoing government formation process.
Notably, Nawaz Sharif had attended Modi’s first swearing-in ceremony in 2014, but no Pakistani representative was invited this time due to strained bilateral ties following terror attacks by the pakistan. The living proof of which India witnessed on June 9 when in parallel to the oath ceremony Pakistan carried out the cowardly attack on Hindu pilgrimages.
Other regional leaders, including Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, attended the swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on June 9.
