During a press conference at the first presidential debate in Atlanta, former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy addressed the speculation about his potential role in a future Trump administration. He clarified that former President Donald Trump has not asked him to be his vice president.
Ramaswamy stated, “He has not asked me to be his vice president,” putting to rest rumors about his immediate involvement in Trump’s campaign as the VP candidate. He added, “Whoever he asks is going to have, I think, a remarkable ability to serve this country in taking that America First agenda even further.”
Earlier this month, at a rally in Wisconsin, Trump praised Ramaswamy, calling him a “smart guy” and suggesting that Ramaswamy would be part of his team in “some form.” Trump remarked, “If I gave it to Vivek to do, he’d pull it off,” and added, “He’s gonna be with us in some form.”
Trump had previously hinted to news media that he had chosen a running mate, who might appear at the debate in Georgia. Potential candidates seen in Atlanta included North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, Florida Senator Marco Rubio, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, and Representatives Byron Donalds of Florida and Elise Stefanik of New York.
Despite not being selected as the vice-presidential candidate, Ramaswamy may still play a significant role in a future Trump administration. The former biotech CEO has shown interest in serving as the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Border security was a key theme of his 2020 campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.

Since withdrawing from the race, Ramaswamy has focused on immigration enforcement. During a recent podcast appearance, he emphasized his passion for the issue, particularly the crisis at the southern border. He said, “we’ll see what happens in the next 10 months.”
Addressing speculation about Ramaswamy being Trump’s top VP choice, his spokesperson told the New York Post, “There’s a lot of press speculation, but I can tell you Vivek’s top focus is making sure we get President Trump elected so that we can take America First to the next level.”
While Vivek Ramaswamy might not be Trump’s vice-presidential pick, his potential involvement in a future administration remains significant. His commitment to immigration enforcement and Trump’s praise suggest he could play a crucial role in shaping policies if Trump wins the presidency again.
