At least nine people were injured in an acid attack at a cafe in Bochum, Germany, according to media reports early Monday. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when a man entered the cafe and poured an acidic liquid over a guest sitting in the outdoor area. The police reported that the attack took place around 3:25 PM local time.
The victim who was targeted in the attack was seriously injured. In addition, a waitress and a woman sitting next to the victim were also hurt. The police confirmed that a total of nine people, including four police officers and two firefighters, sustained injuries after coming into contact with the acid.
The injured police officers and firefighters were affected while responding to the scene. They were trying to assist the victims and secure the area when they came into contact with the acidic substance.
