In a widely anticipated press conference, President Joe Biden addressed the calls for a change in the Democrats’ presumed nominee for a second term, affirming his commitment to “complete the job.” This solo press conference, closely watched by many, was a crucial moment for Biden, the Democrats’ likely candidate for the November 5 US presidential election.
“I think I’m the most qualified person to run for president. I beat him [Trump] once, and I will beat him again,” Biden asserted. He emphasized his decision to run, saying, “I determined I’m running, I think it’s important I allay fears.”
Amidst the calls for new leadership, President Biden highlighted his major achievements, including bringing world leaders together at the NATO Summit in Washington. “Heads of state have been thanking me, saying the reason we’re here together is because of Biden. Because Biden did the following,” he noted.
Despite his confidence, Biden made notable errors during the press conference. He mistakenly referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump,” clarifying that he “wouldn’t have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president” if she weren’t qualified. Earlier, while addressing the NATO Summit, Biden introduced Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as “President Putin.”
In response to questions about the Gaza war, Biden clearly stated, “It’s time to end this war.” He expressed support for Israel but underscored his efforts to broker a ceasefire, advocating for a two-state solution as the only viable answer.
