Millions of Windows users around the world experienced a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) error today, causing their systems to suddenly shut down or restart. The issue was triggered by an update to the CrowdStrike ‘Falcon Sensor.’ This error has significantly impacted airlines, banks, stock markets, and other businesses globally.
Airports and Airlines Face Major Disruptions
Airports worldwide reported that their check-in systems were down, forcing them to handle services manually. This has led to delays in flights. All Indian airlines took to X (formerly Twitter) to inform their passengers about the system issues affecting their operations.
Major US airlines, including American Airlines, Delta Airlines, and United Airlines, issued ground stops on Friday morning due to communication issues. US Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg stated that the department was monitoring the situation and would hold airlines accountable for meeting passengers’ needs.
Responding to the widespread problems, Microsoft released a statement saying it was taking “mitigation actions” to address the service issues. The company posted on X that their services are seeing continuous improvements as they work on resolving the problem. Microsoft assured users that they are treating the issue with the highest priority and urgency to restore full functionality to Microsoft 365 apps, which are currently in a degraded state.
Understanding the Blue Screen of Death
The Blue Screen of Death, also known as a STOP code error, occurs when a critical issue forces Windows to shut down or restart unexpectedly. Users might see a message like “Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.” These errors can result from hardware or software problems.
If you encounter a Blue Screen error after installing new hardware, try shutting down your PC, removing the new hardware, and restarting. If restarting is difficult, start your PC in safe mode. Updating Windows with the latest patches, seeking help from other sources, or restoring Windows to a previous restore point can also help.
Using the Blue Screen Troubleshooter
If these steps do not resolve the issue, use the Blue Screen Troubleshooter in the Get Help app:
1. Open the Get Help app in Windows.
2. Type “Troubleshoot BSOD error” in the search bar.
3. Follow the provided step-by-step instructions.
By following these steps, users can troubleshoot and potentially fix the Blue Screen error affecting their systems.
