Jordan’s Minister of Tourism, Makram Mustafa A Queisi, has assured that his country is safe for tourists despite the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. On his first visit to New Delhi, Queisi expressed his goal to double the number of tourists visiting Jordan from India.
Queisi addressed concerns about the ongoing Middle East conflict, stating that Jordan remains strong, resilient, and safe. He acknowledged a perception problem, particularly in the West, where the Middle East is often seen as one homogeneous region. However, he emphasized that this perception should not affect India, as the situation in Jordan is different.
The minister explained that while tourism from the West has declined due to the crisis, tourists from the Arab world, who make up a significant portion of Jordan’s visitors, have not been deterred. He noted that only about 16% of Jordan’s tourists come from the West, while 60% are from the Arab world.
Queisi highlighted the strong economic ties between Jordan and India. India is a major investor in Jordan, particularly in the phosphate and potash industries. Indian investors are also significant in the garment industry and the Jordanian exchange market. The trade volume between the two countries is substantial, underscoring their close economic relationship.
During his visit, Queisi plans to explore opportunities to promote Jordan as a wedding destination for Indians. He also mentioned that actors from the Indian film industry are currently shooting in Jordan, which could boost the country’s appeal as a tourist destination.
Additionally, the minister aims to resume direct flights between New Delhi and Amman to facilitate easier travel between the two countries.
In summary, Jordan’s Minister of Tourism is optimistic about increasing tourism from India and assures that the country remains a safe and attractive destination despite the regional crisis.
