Former President Donald Trump has agreed to be interviewed by the FBI. The interview is part of an investigation into the assassination attempt that injured him. This incident has created a lot of political debate.
The FBI’s Special Agent Kevin Rojek is leading the investigation. He said Trump will be interviewed like any other victim of a crime. The FBI wants to hear what Trump saw and experienced during the shooting.
The shooting happened on July 13 at a rally in Pennsylvania. The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was a 20-year-old man. He was killed by the Secret Service. Crooks used encrypted email apps from foreign sources to make anonymous purchases before the attack.
Rojek said Crooks tried hard to hide his activities. He searched online for information about President Joe Biden and other former presidents. Crooks also used a surveillance drone over the area where the shooting took place.
The FBI is sharing more details about their ongoing investigation. Christopher Wray, the FBI Director, told lawmakers that Crooks used encrypted messaging apps and a drone.
Lawmakers have also started their own investigations. They are questioning how Crooks could get to a rooftop with a clear view of Trump, who is the Republican nominee for this year’s presidential race. This has become a hot topic in the election campaign.
Crooks searched online for information on power plants, mass shootings, and making explosive devices. He even looked up the attempted assassination of the Slovakian prime minister earlier this year.
In the first half of 2024, Crooks bought chemicals online to build explosives. The investigators have not found a motive for the shooting yet. They also have no evidence that Crooks had any accomplices. They are still analyzing his actions and mental health.
The behavioral analysis shows that Crooks was highly intelligent but socially isolated. Rojek stated that they still believe Crooks acted alone.
