Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat announced on Thursday that the third edition of the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign will be held from August 9-15 as part of the Independence Day celebrations. This initiative aims to foster a sense of patriotism and national pride among Indian citizens by encouraging them to display the national flag, also known as the Tiranga, at their homes.
During a press conference in New Delhi, Minister Shekhawat emphasized the campaign’s goal of inspiring every Indian to hoist the Tiranga and take a selfie with it. The campaign was first launched in 2022 under the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and has since grown into a widespread movement embraced by people from all walks of life across the country.
In its inaugural year, the campaign saw the national flag being displayed at over 23 crore (230 million) homes, with 6 crore (60 million) people sharing selfies with the flag. The following year, participation surged further, with over 10 crore (100 million) selfies uploaded. This year, the Minister hopes to build on this momentum and engage even more citizens in the celebration.
The campaign’s success is being supported by various stakeholders, including states and Union Territories, as well as key industry partners such as e-commerce platforms, the railways, civil aviation sectors, the Indian armed forces, and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).
These groups are actively involved in spreading awareness and promoting the campaign. Additionally, self-help groups across India are working hard to produce and distribute flags, making them widely available to the public.
To mark the occasion, a special Tiranga bike rally featuring Members of Parliament is scheduled to take place in Delhi on August 13. The rally will begin at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, and end at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium, passing through the iconic India Gate. The event is set to start at 8 am and aims to further promote the campaign’s message.
In a recent episode of his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio program on July 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also encouraged citizens to participate in the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign. He highlighted the campaign’s success over the past two years and urged people to continue this tradition to honor the national flag and celebrate Independence Day.
The “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign is a testament to India’s collective spirit and commitment to national pride, reflecting the unity and diversity of the country.
